Grants Officer

About the role

Orant Charities Africa (OCA) is seeking a Grants Officer to expand its donor portfolio and secure funding for its programmes across health, WASH, education, agriculture, business development and environment in Malawi. The role works closely with the Country Director and cross‑functional teams to identify grant opportunities, develop proposals and manage awarded grants.

Key responsibilities

• Research and identify potential grant opportunities and strategic partnerships with local actors, corporate and external donors.
• Collaborate with program managers to gather accurate programme information and ensure proposals reflect current needs and costs.
• Write and submit high‑quality project proposals and fundraising initiatives on time.
• Develop and maintain a grants calendar, budgets, timelines and reporting schedules.
• Monitor grant expenditures, ensure compliance with donor requirements and prepare detailed narrative and financial reports.
• Maintain ongoing communication with grantors to foster relationships and align objectives.

Required profile

• Degree in development studies or a related field.
• Minimum five years of proven experience in grant writing, grant management and fundraising.
• Familiarity with budgeting and financial management principles.
• Knowledge of the nonprofit sector, fundraising techniques and donor landscapes relevant to Malawi.
• Strong analytical, negotiation and relationship‑building abilities.
• High level of computer proficiency.
