Volunteer Accountant for Women & Girls NGO in Malawi (6‑12 weeks)

About the role

We are seeking a qualified accountant to volunteer with a women‑led NGO in rural Malawi for 6‑12 weeks. The assignment will support the organisation’s financial management, helping it transition from paper‑based records to a more robust, computerized system.

Key responsibilities

• Review existing financial management controls, processes and systems.
• Recommend and help implement improvements, including the selection of suitable accounting software.
• Assist in setting up a chart of accounts and migrating data to a digital platform.
• Coach local staff on using the new system and on basic financial reporting.
• Support the preparation of programme and organisational budgets, cash‑flow forecasts and donor agreement reviews.

Required profile

• Professional accounting qualification or equivalent experience.
• Experience working with NGOs or in low‑resource environments is a plus.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting and adapt to limited infrastructure (electricity, internet).

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
