Volunteer Accountant for Women & Girls NGO in Malawi (6‑12 weeks)

About the role
This is a 6‑12 week pro‑bono assignment supporting a women‑led non‑profit in rural Malawi. You will help strengthen the organisation’s financial management by reviewing existing controls, processes and systems and recommending improvements.
Key responsibilities
- Assess current financial management controls, processes and record‑keeping practices.
- Evaluate the hybrid paper‑based and Excel‑based accounting system and advise on migration to a suitable computerised solution.
- Develop a chart of accounts and, if required, set up a new accounting system.
- Coach local staff on the use of the new system and on basic financial reporting.
- Review programme and organisational budgets, cash‑flow forecasts and donor agreements.
Required profile
- Qualified accountant or finance professional with experience in non‑profit financial management.
- Ability to work independently and adapt recommendations to limited resources (e.g., intermittent electricity or internet).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
