Projects and Results Delivery Office (RDO) Head

About the role

The Projects and Results Delivery Office (RDO) Head owns how Illovo Sugar Malawi plans, delivers and realises value from its capital investments and strategic initiatives. Reporting to the Transformation Director, the role leads the enterprise capital programme, the project delivery system and the RDO, turning site and functional investment needs into a prioritised, affordable and executable five-to-ten-year capital roadmap aligned with enterprise strategy. The role builds a team that delivers predictable project outcomes and sustainable business benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the enterprise capital programme, project delivery system and RDO, aligning site portfolios, major projects and improvement initiatives with enterprise strategy.
• Develop and maintain the five-to-ten-year capital roadmap, consolidating site and functional investment requirements into one prioritised, affordable and executable portfolio.
• Challenge proposed investments for strategic alignment, business need, affordability and technical maturity, and recommend priorities, sequencing, acceleration, deferral or cancellation.
• Set standards for project development and investment assurance, ensuring proposals are evidence-based, well defined and decision-ready.
• Own and enforce the enterprise project lifecycle and stage-gate framework, including minimum deliverables, decision criteria and escalation thresholds.
• Provide functional leadership to site-based project teams, holding them accountable for delivery against approved scope, cost, schedule, safety, quality and benefits.
• Lead the RDO so that strategic initiatives and performance improvement programmes have clear charters, baselines, accountable owners and measurable benefits, confirmed through post-implementation reviews.
• Maintain oversight of project budgets, commitments, cash-flow forecasts and projected final costs, partnering with Finance, Procurement and Legal on tendering, contracting and commercial exposure.
• Provide executive reporting on portfolio performance, risk and required decisions, and direct recovery action where approved outcomes are threatened.
• Build project-development, engineering-execution and results-delivery capability across central and site teams, and uphold health, safety, environmental, food safety and quality standards, ethical standards and anti-bribery controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related technical discipline.
• Recognised professional project-management qualification such as PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ or MSP strongly preferred.
• Professional engineering registration or equivalent technical accreditation is advantageous.
• Minimum of 10 years' progressive experience in capital-project development, engineering project delivery, programme management or project-portfolio management, including 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven experience leading a PMO, transformation office or benefits-realisation programme, with strong project financial and commercial management.
