Legal Services Officer

About the role

The University of Malawi is looking for a qualified Legal Services Officer to manage its legal affairs. The role involves providing legal advice, handling litigation, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. The officer will work closely with university management and external legal service providers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct litigation initiated by or against the University in the appropriate courts.
• Provide legal advice to university management and staff on official matters.
• Prepare cases for submission to outsourced legal service providers and liaise with them.
• Draft, vet, and review legal letters, contracts, and agreements.
• Monitor legal obligations under agreements and maintain a database of court matters.
• Represent the University in arbitration, mediation, negotiations and participate in relevant committee meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law or a related field.
• At least three years of relevant work experience in a comparable setting.
• Registered legal practitioner.
