Head of Human Resources (Head of People)

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic Head of Human Resources (Head of People) to lead our People function in Lilongwe, Malawi. The successful candidate will shape and execute a comprehensive People strategy that aligns with business goals and drives organisational performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the People strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and organisational priorities.
• Partner with senior leadership to advise on organisational structure, workforce planning, capability development and people‑related risks.
• Drive talent acquisition, succession planning, talent development and retention strategies for critical and leadership positions.
• Lead performance management processes and embed a high‑performance culture with clear objectives, accountability and measurable outcomes.
• Manage employee relations and ensure compliance with Malawi labour legislation, internal policies and governance requirements.
• Oversee compensation, benefits, payroll and reward processes, ensuring accuracy, appropriate controls and market competitiveness.
• Drive employee engagement, organisational development, culture and change initiatives across the business.
• Utilise HR data, analytics and systems to identify trends, provide insights and support evidence‑based decision‑making.
• Lead and develop the People team to deliver strategic and operational HR priorities effectively.
• Oversee key administrative services, including office facilities and fleet management.

Required profile

• A relevant degree, preferably in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant HR experience, including at least 3 years in a senior HR leadership position.
• Strong knowledge and practical application of Malawi employment and labour legislation, employee relations and HR governance.
• Demonstrated experience operating within a large corporate or multinational environment and partnering with senior and executive leadership.
• Strategic, analytical, organisational and stakeholder management capabilities.
