Director, Risk, Audit, and Compliance

About the role

World Bicycle Relief is seeking a Director to lead global risk management, internal audit, compliance, and governance activities across its operations in East and Southern Africa and related entities. The role provides independent assurance and practical guidance to senior leadership and the Audit Committee, supporting the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an enterprise risk management framework, facilitating periodic risk assessments and risk register reviews.
• Identify, monitor, and report emerging operational, financial, compliance, strategic, legal, and reputational risks.
• Prepare risk reports for executive leadership, country leadership, the Board, and the Audit Committee.
• Lead the creation of a risk‑based internal audit plan covering World Bicycle Relief, Buffalo Bicycle country operations, and affiliated fundraising organizations.
• Execute operational, financial, compliance, governance, and special audits, and assess internal controls.
• Provide recommendations for mitigation strategies and promote risk awareness throughout the organization.

Required profile

• Proven experience in leading risk management, internal audit, and compliance functions in a multi‑country, non‑profit or social‑enterprise environment.
• Strong understanding of donor stewardship, regulatory requirements, and governance best practices.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with senior management and board members.
