Volunteer Accountant for Women & Girls NGO (6-12 weeks)

About the role

This volunteer opportunity allows an accounting professional to support a women‑led non‑profit in Malawi. You will help strengthen the organisation’s financial management by reviewing existing controls, recommending improvements, and guiding the transition to a more robust accounting system.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a comprehensive review of current financial management controls, processes, and systems.
• Provide recommendations to strengthen financial controls and implement best practices.
• Assess the feasibility of moving from a hybrid paper‑Excel system to a fully computerised accounting solution, considering local resources such as electricity and internet.
• Assist in setting up a new accounting system, including creating a chart of accounts and configuring software if appropriate.
• Coach local staff on the use of the new system and on basic financial management tools.
• Support the development of programme and organisational budgets, cash‑flow forecasts, and cost‑analysis for donor reporting.
