Director of Transmission

About the role

The Director of Transmission reports to the Chief Operations Officer and leads the Transmission Licensee as a Strategic Business Unit. The role carries full responsibility for planning, directing, controlling and managing transmission activities, sales, support functions and financial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and guide strategic and business plans for the Transmission Licensee, ensuring compliance with the Electricity (amendment) Act of 2016.
• Represent the Transmission Licensee in corporate strategic and business planning processes.
• Ensure division action plans align with laws, market rules and regulatory requirements, and that necessary resources are available.
• Prepare revenue and capital budgets and monitor their execution against corporate strategy.
• Oversee operations and maintenance of the transmission system, emphasizing quality and reliability.
• Formulate policies and technical guidelines for transmission operation and maintenance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a relevant Master’s degree from a recognized university.
• Registered member of the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI).
• At least ten years of industry experience, with a minimum of five years in senior management.
• Experience in the power supply industry is an advantage.
