Budgeting & Reporting Assistant (Lilongwe)

About the role

The Budgeting & Reporting Assistant will support the Planning, Budgeting and Reporting function of Save the Children’s Malawi Country Office. Based in Lilongwe, the role ensures partner financial reports are accurate, compliant and aligned with donor requirements, while providing financial support for proposals, budgets and the AICS PROMOSSO Project.

Key responsibilities

• Review partner financial reports and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance.
• Support partners in meeting Save the Children and donor financial requirements.
• Conduct remote and field‑based reviews of partner expenditures and follow up on discrepancies.
• Prepare and process payments for the AICS PROMOSSO Project, including advance liquidations.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper authorisation of transactions.
• Assist Budget Holders and programme teams with budget realignments, monitoring and reporting.

Required profile

• Minimum Diploma in Finance and Accounting (or equivalent); a degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is an advantage.
• At least two years of experience in accounting, finance, budgeting or financial reporting, preferably in the NGO or donor‑funded sector.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills, high integrity and ability to work independently.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Experience with financial management or accounting systems.
• Knowledge of budget monitoring, financial controls and donor compliance.
