Budget & Finance Specialist

About the role

The Budget & Finance Specialist will ensure sound financial management and budget oversight for UNICEF Malawi’s Country Programme. You will lead financial planning, budgeting, accounting, treasury, and risk management to support effective programme delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in financial planning, budgeting, accounting, treasury and cash management.
• Supervise finance and budget staff, ensuring timely allocation, monitoring of funds and accurate reporting.
• Ensure compliance with UNICEF regulations, IPSAS standards, HACT procedures and donor requirements.
• Manage financial transactions, monitor grants and expenditures, and advise management on financial strategy.
• Promote capacity building by coaching staff and partners and sharing best practices.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management, accounting or auditing.
• Experience working with banks or insurance companies and in volatile macro‑economic environments.
