Academic Positions in Public Law & Clinical Legal Education

About the role

The University of Malawi’s School of Law, Economics and Government is seeking qualified academics for multiple ranks – Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor – in the Department of Public Law and Clinical Legal Education. The successful candidates will join a vibrant faculty, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervising research, and contributing to community outreach.

Key responsibilities

• Teach and assess courses such as Law of Evidence, Law of Drafting, Civil Procedure, Legal Research Methods, Governance and Law.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects, including clinical legal work.
• Conduct and publish research in the candidate’s area of expertise.
• Participate in departmental academic and professional activities and community outreach.
• Develop research proposals, write grant applications and engage in resource mobilisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (Honors) Upper second‑class degree – mandatory for all positions.
• Master’s degree in Law (LLM) – required for Lecturer and higher ranks.
• Doctorate degree – required for Associate Professor and Professor.
• Demonstrated record of publications and research initiative.
• Evidence of teaching ability and commitment to academic service.
