Volunteer Accountant – Malawi (Overseas)

About the role

An international development NGO operating in Malawi seeks a volunteer accountant to help strengthen its finance systems. You will work closely with the Finance and Administration Manager, the wider finance team and senior leadership to review and improve processes across multiple donor‑funded projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assess current finance processes and identify priority improvements.
• Support the implementation and optimisation of QuickBooks.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management.
• Prepare donor reports and management accounts.
• Enhance internal controls and verify expenditures.
• Help the organisation become audit‑ready.
• Mentor junior staff on finance best practices.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant or finance professional with experience in NGOs or similar environments.
• Collaborative, adaptable and able to balance strategic review with hands‑on support.
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
