National Consultant – Male Engagement Toolkit Review (Malawi)

About the role

The National Consultant will lead the review and harmonisation of male engagement toolkits supporting gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and HIV prevention across UNFPA‑supported programmes in Malawi. Based in Lilongwe, the consultant will work closely with UNFPA, government ministries, implementing partners and a multi‑agency technical task team.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct strategic and technical reviews of existing male engagement toolkits, curricula, dialogue guides and community‑based approaches.
• Analyse gaps and opportunities to align tools with the National Male Engagement Strategy (2023‑2030) and national HIV prevention priorities.
• Lead stakeholder consultations, validation workshops and comparative analyses.
• Develop a harmonised, evidence‑informed male engagement framework that integrates HIV prevention, GBV prevention, positive masculinities, youth engagement and referral pathways.
• Provide recommendations for scalable, sustainable programming to improve gender equality and health outcomes.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in public health, gender studies, social sciences or related field.
• Extensive experience in gender‑transformative programming, SRHR and HIV prevention.
• Proven track record of leading toolkit development or harmonisation projects in low‑resource settings.
• Strong analytical, facilitation and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
