Management Accounts Accountant

About the role

The University of Malawi is seeking a qualified Accountant to manage its management and project accounts (UM8). The role involves preparing consolidated financial statements, monitoring grant finances and ensuring compliance with donor requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and consolidate management/project accounts and financial statements.
• Approve journal vouchers, conduct reconciliations and monitor expenditures against approved budgets and grants.
• Track grant periods, ensure phase‑out financial requirements are met and support smooth grant closures.
• Review and consolidate financial reports to meet internal and donor timelines.
• Generate financial analysis for management decision‑making.
• Facilitate audits by providing accurate information and implementing recommendations.
• Coordinate preparation of management accounts, analyze variances and support budget preparation.
• Produce cash‑flow projections and manage the accounting information system, fixed‑assets register and evaluations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in accounting or a related field.
• At least six years of relevant accounting experience.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of management accounting and grant financial management.
• Experience with financial reporting, budgeting and cash‑flow forecasting.
