Internal vacancies – Assistant Sheriff, Accountant, and Stenographer

About the role

The Judicial Service Commission of Malawi is seeking qualified internal candidates for three key positions: Assistant Sheriff, Assistant Accountant and Shorthand Typist/Stenographer. These roles support the efficient functioning of the judiciary across Blantyre, Lilongwe, Zomba and Mzuzu.

Key responsibilities

• Assistant Sheriff: execute court orders such as warrants of execution, seizure, possession of land, delivery of goods, and other directives; ensure safe custody and proper storage of seized items; manage sale and disposal of seized goods in compliance with law.
• Assistant Accountant: record transactions in subsidiary and general ledgers; supervise junior accounts staff; prepare monthly expenditure and revenue returns; maintain advances and cheque registers; reconcile accounts with the Accountant General and handle VAT, surtax, WHT and PAYE reconciliations.
• Shorthand Typist/Stenographer: manage the Judge’s appointments and reception duties; type letters, memos, minutes and reports; arrange travel and accommodation; procure and serve refreshments; take minutes of departmental meetings.

Required profile

• Assistant Sheriff: serving officer with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Management/Administration, Human Resource Management or Social Sciences from an accredited institution.
• Assistant Accountant: serving Accounts Assistant (Grade CS11) within the Judiciary with at least four years’ experience in that post.
• Shorthand Typist/Stenographer: serving Copy Typist (Grade CS11) within the Judiciary with a minimum of four years’ experience.
