Finance Officer (NO-1) – Fixed Term – Lilongwe

About the role

The Finance Officer (NO‑1) will support UNICEF Malawi in safeguarding resources and delivering results for children. Reporting to the Budget & Finance Specialist, the incumbent will ensure effective stewardship of organisational funds through high‑quality financial management, accounting, treasury and compliance services.

Key responsibilities

• Support budget preparation, implementation and monitoring of expenditures.
• Process financial transactions, maintain accurate accounting records and reconcile accounts.
• Assist with period‑end closure activities and review financial reports and implementing‑partner transactions.
• Identify exceptions, manage risks and strengthen internal controls.
• Provide cash and treasury management support, including cash forecasting and bank‑account monitoring.
• Contribute to donor, statutory and audit reporting requirements.
• Promote ethical financial practices and facilitate capacity‑building initiatives.

Required profile

• Open to Malawian nationals only.
• Relevant experience in financial planning, budgeting, monitoring and reporting.
• Knowledge of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and UNICEF financial policies.

Required skills

• Understanding of IPSAS.
