Finance Officer

About the role

The Finance Officer will support the Malawi Country Office in monitoring, reporting, and managing its finances and resources. Reporting to the Finance Coordinator, the role ensures strong financial controls, compliance with Save the Children policies and donor requirements, and efficient financial processes.

Key responsibilities

• Process payments, programme advances and liquidations.
• Support treasury management and cash flow monitoring.
• Maintain accurate financial records and prepare journal entries.
• Assist with payroll processing and fixed‑asset management.
• Facilitate internal and external audits and strengthen internal controls.
• Build financial management capacity of staff and implementing partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accountancy or related discipline.
• Minimum three years of accounting experience, preferably in an NGO, corporate or audit environment.
• Strong knowledge of financial systems, internal controls and donor compliance.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and organisational abilities.
• High attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Commitment to Save the Children’s vision, mission and values.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Experience with computerized accounting systems.
