Chief of Party – Malawi Activity

About the role

The Chief of Party (COP) leads the implementation of the Abt Global Central Mechanism in Malawi, overseeing malaria vector control and HIV/AIDS service delivery. Reporting to the U.S.-based Project Management Director, the COP serves as the primary liaison with the Ministry of Health, National Malaria Program, U.S. Embassy, and other key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Represent Abt Global and the project to the Ministry of Health, National Malaria Program, U.S. Embassy, and other partners.
• Exercise full authority and accountability for project decisions as delegated by the Project Director.
• Develop and execute a results‑oriented program strategy in coordination with government and donor partners.
• Lead day‑to‑day execution of the fixed‑price, performance‑based contract, ensuring milestones, acceptance criteria, and payment triggers are met on schedule.
• Maintain compliance with the statement of work, contractual requirements, and financial and administrative regulations.
• Conduct regular milestone‑progress reviews, escalating risks, scope changes, or funding pressures promptly.
• Control project scope through disciplined change management and formal authorization processes.

Required profile

• Extensive experience managing large‑scale health programs, preferably in malaria or HIV/AIDS.
• Proven ability to work with government ministries, international donors, and U.S. government agencies.
• Strong leadership and decision‑making authority in a multi‑stakeholder environment.
• Demonstrated track record of delivering results on time and within budget.
