Director of Nursing

About the role

The Director of Nursing leads the nursing department of Beit‑CURE Children’s Hospital Malawi, ensuring high‑quality patient care and compliance with local and international standards. Reporting to senior management, the role combines clinical expertise with strategic, financial and operational responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between nursing staff, physicians and administrators, fostering a supportive care environment.
• Develop, implement and monitor nursing policies, procedures and best‑practice protocols, including infection prevention and surgical safety.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, performance evaluation and succession planning for nursing personnel.
• Manage the nursing budget, monitor resource utilization and ensure accurate reporting.
• Lead quality and patient‑safety initiatives, maintain the Nursing Quality Indicators dashboard and drive continuous improvement projects.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Nursing with an unrestricted license to practice.
• At least 8 years of post‑qualification experience, including 2 years in pediatric nursing and 3 years in senior leadership.
• Experience with quality‑management accreditation such as SafeCare or JCIA.

Required skills

• Strong leadership, communication and supervisory capabilities.
• Proficiency in budgeting, staffing and policy development.
• Ability to analyse data, produce reports and drive quality‑improvement initiatives.
