Business and Quality Assurance Consultant (Contract)

About the role

The University of Malawi is seeking a Business and Quality Assurance Consultant on a flexible, time‑based contract to ensure the quality, reliability and user‑centred design of its digital health solutions. The role bridges business analysis, quality assurance, release management and stakeholder engagement across the development lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and document business requirements for maternal and newborn health workflows, identifying opportunities for process improvement and automation.
• Design, develop and execute functional, integration, regression and user‑acceptance test plans, track defects and ensure timely resolution.
• Maintain release plans, prepare release notes, conduct readiness assessments and manage version‑control documentation.
• Support system implementation, facilitate user‑acceptance testing, develop training materials and provide post‑implementation support.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
• Minimum five years’ experience as a business analyst and/or QA specialist, preferably with health information systems and DHIS2.
• Proven ability to work with healthcare providers, understand clinical workflows and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; knowledge of Chichewa is an advantage.

Required skills

• DHIS2 platform and QA processes.
• Manual and automated testing tools; test management (e.g., JIRA, TestRail).
• Version‑control and release tools (Git, GitLab, Jenkins).
• Health‑information standards and interoperability frameworks (HL7, FHIR, OpenHIE).
• Understanding of software development life‑cycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
