Budget & Finance Specialist (Fixed Term)

About the role

UNICEF Malawi is seeking a Budget & Finance Specialist to ensure sound financial management and budget oversight for the Country Programme. You will lead financial planning, budgeting, accounting, treasury, and risk management while supporting programme delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in financial planning, budgeting, accounting, treasury and cash management.
• Supervise finance and budget staff, ensuring timely allocation, monitoring and reporting of funds.
• Ensure compliance with UNICEF regulations, IPSAS standards, HACT procedures and donor requirements.
• Manage financial transactions, grant monitoring and expenditure tracking.
• Deliver strategic financial advice to management and programme teams.
• Promote capacity building through coaching, best‑practice sharing and ethical resource management.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management, accounting or auditing.
• Experience working with banks or insurance companies and managing resources in volatile macro‑economic environments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and ensure compliance with donor conditions.
