Accountant – International Development NGO

About the role

Our client, an international development NGO, is seeking an Accountant to manage bookkeeping, ensure compliance with local and international standards, and support financial planning across education programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Record all financial transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
• Review payment requests for compliance and accuracy.
• Conduct payroll processing and statutory deductions review.
• Maintain ledgers, journals, and other accounting records.
• Contribute to financial planning and monitor actual spending against budgets.
• Support project coordinators in budget monitoring for programmes and projects.
• Ensure expenses are correctly coded to the appropriate donor, project, or account.
• Maintain compliance with donor rules, audit requirements, and statutory filing obligations.
• Generate financial reports and assist with data analysis using SQL.
• Perform VAT and vendor reconciliations and prepare donor financial reports.
• Support onboarding of new staff on financial procedures and donor guidelines.
• Alert management to any suspected irregularities or risks and support improvements to financial systems and controls.

Required profile

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; master’s degree preferred.
• At least 4 years of accounting experience in an international development or non‑profit setting.
• Strong understanding of IFRS and donor compliance requirements.
• Fluent in English and one additional local language.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Navision accounting software.
• Advanced MS Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables).
• SQL for data analysis and reporting.
