Programme Manager – Democratic Governance & Human Rights

About the role

The EU Delegation to Malawi is seeking a Programme Manager for its Cooperation Section responsible for Democratic Governance, Human Rights and Civil Society. The role is part of a larger team covering Governance, Rule of Law, Education, Youth and Skills, and reports to the EU Ambassador, the Head of Cooperation and the Team Leader.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the programming, identification, formulation and appraisal of programmes in cooperation with beneficiary institutions in Malawi and with other donors.
• Provide support, expertise and assistance on democratic governance, human rights and civil‑society issues.
• Carry out fixed tasks and additional duties as required by the Delegation’s evolving needs.
• Collaborate with a team of 23 staff, including a dedicated sub‑team of seven members.
• Adapt to occasional atypical working hours.

Required profile

• Experience in programme management within democratic governance, human rights or civil‑society contexts.
• Ability to work under the supervision of senior EU officials and within a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to undertake occasional atypical working hours.
