Health Programme Manager, Malawi

About the role

The Health Programme Manager will work closely with the Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) to plan, coordinate, implement, and report on community health initiatives under the Danish Red Cross portfolio. Based in Lilongwe, the role supports both the Community Resilience Programme (COMREP) and the ECHO‑funded Nutrition and Health Response, ensuring vulnerable communities receive effective health services and emergency support.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance and oversight to MRCS on health‑related activities, including outbreak preparedness and response.
• Coordinate the planning, implementation, quality assurance, and reporting of COMREP health outputs and the ECHO nutrition‑health project.
• Liaise with consortium partners such as Icelandic Red Cross, Danish Red Cross Youth, RCRC Livelihoods Resource Centre, and Save the Children to align technical inputs and reporting.
• Support emergency health response initiatives and ensure compliance with donor and organisational reporting requirements.
• Build capacity within MRCS health staff through training, mentorship, and knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Malawi resident with a strong passion for health programming in the humanitarian sector.
• Proven experience in managing health projects, preferably in community resilience or emergency response contexts.
• Solid understanding of public health principles, outbreak preparedness, and health service delivery in low‑resource settings.
• Excellent coordination and communication skills to work with multiple partners and stakeholders.
