Micro Merchant Manager – Lilongwe

About the role

Airtel Money is looking for a dynamic Micro Merchant Manager to lead the development, rollout, and growth of its micro‑merchant proposition in Malawi. You will be responsible for acquiring, activating, and supporting a nationwide network of small and medium merchants who accept Airtel Money payments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute a nationwide merchant acquisition strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Recruit, onboard, and activate micro, small and formal merchants across all regions.
• Develop merchant education programs, incentives and campaigns to increase transaction frequency.
• Monitor merchant performance, analyse data and implement actions to improve profitability and reduce dormancy.
• Collaborate with zonal sales teams, merchant associations and partners to expand the network.
• Ensure compliance with KYC, regulatory requirements and fraud mitigation controls.
• Report on key KPIs, revenue targets and growth metrics to senior management.

Required profile

• Proven experience in merchant acquisition, sales or business development within the payments or telecom sector.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to translate data into actionable insights.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and drive results in a fast‑paced environment.
