Pharmacy Technician – Kasese, Dowa (Malawi)

About the role

The Pharmacy Technician will support the health services program at Kasese Health Center, ensuring safe and efficient dispensing of medicines and proper management of pharmacy inventory in a rural Malawian setting.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise drug and medical material orders, coordinate receipt of international and local supplies.
• Fill patients’ prescriptions according to clinician instructions and provide counseling on drug interactions, side effects, and storage.
• Review clinician orders, detect therapeutic incompatibilities, and maintain controlled‑drug records.
• Manage inventory using HIMS tools, conduct monthly stock checks, and place orders from the main drug storage.
• Use Electronic Health Records (EHR) for requisition, dispensing, and inventory processes.
• Organise monthly therapeutic committee meetings and compile monthly reports for the supervisor.
• Supervise pharmacy assistants, ensure proper handovers, and keep the pharmacy clean and well‑organized.

Required profile

• Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
• At least 2 years of pharmacy experience with a clean track record.
• Registered with the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority.
• Ability to work independently in remote settings and understand rural health challenges.
• Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
