Legal Advisor, Business & Commercial Banking

About the role

The Legal Advisor will provide commercial‑focused legal counsel to the Business & Commercial Banking unit, supporting the bank’s lending and security activities. You will draft, review and negotiate a range of banking documentation while managing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the drafting, review and negotiation of credit facilities, security documents and related agreements.
• Provide legal advice on complex bank transactions, structured facilities and product documentation.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal risk, escalating significant issues as needed.
• Serve as the senior point of contact for contractual and credit‑related queries within the Legal Division.
• Coach, mentor and supervise junior legal team members.
• Manage relationships with external law firms, including fee negotiations and instruction oversight.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a Bachelor’s degree in Law.
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience in banking and finance law.
• 5–7 years of experience drafting, vetting and negotiating legal documentation.
• At least 5 years in legal, financial, corporate or commercial sectors.
• Proven ability to identify and mitigate legal risk.
• Minimum 3 years of leadership or people‑management experience.
• Strong track record in credit transactional work and negotiating complex lending and security documents.
