Health Financing Advisor – Malawi

About the role

Last Mile Health is seeking an Advisor, Health Financing to support Malawi’s Ministry of Health in advancing its health financing reform agenda. The role is embedded within the Directorate of Planning and Policy, providing technical assistance to translate investment opportunities into actionable financing pathways and strengthen the Ministry’s capacity to engage private sector and development partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop economic models and generate evidence to inform high‑level health policy decisions.
• Support design of service delivery, provider payment mechanisms, and financing structures.
• Analyze sector‑wide budget allocations to improve financial efficiency and value for money.
• Facilitate coordination between the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, development partners, investors, and private sector actors.
• Assist in aligning national policies, budget decisions, and investment strategies with HSSP III and the National Community Health Framework (2023‑30).

Required profile

• Experience in health financing, preferably in resource‑constrained settings.
• Demonstrated ability to work with senior government officials and multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on systemic change and universal health coverage.
