Executive Dean – Senior Academic Leadership Role

About the role

The University of Malawi seeks visionary leaders to serve as Executive Deans for its School of Education and the School of Law, Economics and Government. The role involves strategic academic and administrative leadership to advance teaching, research, and community engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and governance aligned with the university’s mission and national higher‑education standards.
• Promote high‑quality teaching, curriculum development, and internationally competitive programmes.
• Lead research, innovation, consultancy and community outreach, securing grants and partnerships.
• Manage academic and professional staff, fostering development, mentorship and performance management.
• Oversee budgeting, financial planning and resource mobilisation, including income‑generating activities.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline from a recognised university.
• Current rank of Senior Lecturer with a strong record of teaching, research and publications.
• At least five years of senior academic leadership experience (e.g., Head of Department, Dean, Director).
• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, financial management and institutional governance.
• Proven ability to attract research funding and build collaborative networks.
