Compliance Officer Intern (Research Ethics)

About the role

The University of Malawi Research Ethics Committee (UNIMAREC) is looking for a Compliance Officer Intern to support the monitoring of research projects against ethical standards and regulatory requirements. The intern will work closely with UNIMAREC members and investigators to ensure research is conducted responsibly and participants are protected.

Key responsibilities

• Verify that investigators follow approved protocols and national regulations.
• Conduct on‑site inspection visits with UNIMAREC members and prepare detailed reports.
• Assist the UNIMAREC Administrator with screening applications, minute‑taking, and documentation.
• Provide advisory support on good research practices and ethical compliance.
• Ensure proper reporting of serious adverse events and completion of material transfer agreements.
• Maintain study files, update the UNIMAREC website, and manage the internet client interface module.

Required profile

• Minimum of a master’s degree from a recognised university (doctoral degree advantageous).
• At least two years of experience in a research‑related field.
• Practical knowledge of research proposal development and project monitoring.
• Familiarity with research ethics and national regulatory requirements.
