Project Director – Climate‑Resilient Healthcare (Malawi)

About the role

Save the Children is seeking a dynamic Project Director to lead the Climate‑resilient Healthcare and Wellbeing for Rural Communities in Southern Malawi, a five‑year Green Climate Fund‑funded initiative. The role provides overall strategic direction, management oversight and quality assurance for the project.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and overall direction for the five‑year GCF project.
• Lead the National Project Management Unit and supervise implementation across six climate‑vulnerable districts.
• Coordinate with the Ministry of Health, government ministries, technical advisory committees, donors, civil society and consortium partners.
• Oversee project inception, set‑up, compliance, budgeting and risk management.
• Ensure robust monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems.
• Maintain financial accountability and ensure adherence to GCF and Save the Children standards.
• Strengthen stakeholder engagement and drive high‑quality technical and operational performance.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Climate Change, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Project Management or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience managing large‑scale donor‑funded development or humanitarian projects, preferably in health systems strengthening and climate‑resilience.
• Proven experience leading complex, multi‑stakeholder initiatives involving governments, donors and international partners.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large, geographically dispersed teams.
• Experience with Green Climate Fund projects or similar institutional donors is an advantage.
