Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Director

About the role

Pact is launching a new activity in Malawi under the ACHIEVE project, funded by the U.S. Department of State. The Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Director will provide strategic guidance and leadership for MEL of the maternal, newborn, child health (MNCH) and nutrition program, ensuring high‑quality data informs program design, implementation and adaptation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and oversee the MEL strategy for the MNCH and nutrition program across Zomba, Thyolo, Karonga and Balaka districts.
• Supervise MEL staff, ensuring functional integration of MEL activities with program operations.
• Collaborate closely with sub‑awardees, the Ministry of Health, donors and other partners to align data collection and reporting.
• Ensure generation, analysis and use of high‑quality data to support evidence‑based decision‑making.
• Oversee accurate and timely reporting to funders and internal stakeholders.
• Strengthen sub‑national health management teams in planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading MEL functions for health or nutrition programs, preferably in low‑resource settings.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government ministries, international donors and implementing partners.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
• Experience with USAID/State Department‑funded projects is a plus.
