Kitchen Assistant

About the role

The Kitchen Assistant supports the hospital kitchen team by maintaining a clean and safe environment for food preparation and service. This role ensures that all utensils, equipment, and work areas are hygienic, and assists chefs in meal preparation and delivery to patients, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize kitchen utensils, equipment, crockery, cutlery, walls, cupboards, windows, sinks, floors, and drains.
• Assist chefs with meal preparation, plating, and serving to patients, staff, and guardians.
• Unload deliveries, organize the storeroom, and ensure proper food storage.
• Collect, wash, and store pots, pans, and other kitchen tools promptly.
• Maintain daily personal and serving area hygiene, and perform weekly deep‑cleaning of walls and cupboards.
• Follow food safety, storage, and hygiene protocols at all times.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary qualification in Housekeeping or a related field; a certificate in cookery is an advantage.
• Minimum of 2 years experience working in a busy kitchen, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Willingness to learn, a service‑oriented attitude, and respect for patient privacy.
• Ability to work reliably as part of a team and follow hospital protocols.

• Basic kitchen equipment operation and cleaning techniques.
