Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager leads all engineering and maintenance operations for the Protea Hotel in Lilongwe. This role ensures the building, grounds, and physical plant operate safely, securely, and efficiently while supporting guest satisfaction and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the physical plant, including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems.
• Develop and manage the engineering budget, capital expenditure projects, and preventative maintenance programs.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, security, and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate energy‑conservation initiatives and recommend cost‑effective operational improvements.
• Prepare specifications, negotiate, and administer service contracts.
• Direct maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, vehicles, and recreational facilities.
• Plan and supervise renovation or new‑construction projects, managing contractors and timelines.
• Maintain relationships with city building/zoning departments, fire prevention bureaus, and vendors.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least 3 years of engineering/maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related field with at least 1 year of experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing systems.
