Project Director – Climate‑Resilient Healthcare Project (Malawi)

About the role

Save the Children is seeking a dynamic Project Director to lead the Climate‑Resilient Healthcare and Wellbeing for Rural Communities in Southern Malawi. The five‑year initiative, funded by the Green Climate Fund, aims to reduce climate‑related disease burden, strengthen health system resilience, and build capacity among health workers and communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall strategic direction, management oversight, and quality assurance for the project.
• Lead the National Project Management Unit and supervise implementation across six climate‑vulnerable districts.
• Coordinate with the Ministry of Health, government ministries, donors, civil society, and consortium partners.
• Oversee project inception, setup, compliance, monitoring and evaluation systems, and financial accountability.
• Drive high‑quality technical and operational performance across all components.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Climate Change, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Project Management or related field.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience managing large‑scale donor‑funded development or humanitarian projects, preferably in health systems strengthening and climate resilience.
• Proven experience leading complex, multi‑stakeholder projects involving government, donors, and international partners.
• Strong background in project planning, budgeting, compliance, risk management, and team leadership.
