Census Programme Coordinator Consultant – Malawi

About the role

The Government of Malawi, through its National Statistical Office, is preparing for the 2028 Population and Housing Census. UNFPA is seeking a National Consultant to provide strategic, operational and technical coordination to ensure the census is delivered on time, within budget and to high quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support overall census preparedness and the coordination of technical and operational workstreams.
• Engage and liaise with government ministries, UN agencies, donors and other stakeholders.
• Monitor implementation progress, identify risks and propose mitigation measures.
• Mobilise resources and strengthen census management systems.
• Facilitate digital transformation initiatives related to data collection and processing.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing large‑scale census or national statistical programmes.
• Strong understanding of census methodology, data management and stakeholder coordination.
• Ability to work independently and provide strategic advice to senior officials.
• Commitment to UNFPA values of transparency, ethics and results‑oriented delivery.
