Volunteer - Climate Change and School Projects

About the role

FutureSafe is looking for a volunteer to support its school- and community-based projects on climate change education, environmental sustainability, disaster risk reduction, WASH and child and youth participation. The duty station is Blantyre, Malawi, with target locations in Ndirande, Chirimba, Kanjedza and Zingwangwa.

Key responsibilities

• Support environmental and climate resilience activities in primary schools.
• Help set up and support environmental clubs and learner-led initiatives.
• Take part in tree planting, waste management, school greening and disaster preparedness activities.
• Mobilise learners, teachers, parents and community members to join project activities.
• Support data collection, monitoring, documentation and reporting using digital tools.
• Help organise environmental awareness campaigns, school events and community outreach.
• Promote child protection, safeguarding, gender equality and inclusion in all activities.
• Represent FutureSafe professionally and follow its policies and code of conduct.

Required profile

• Diploma in Environmental Science, Community Development or another relevant field.
• Owns and can use a smartphone for communication, data collection and reporting.
• Based in or near Ndirande, Chirimba, Kanjedza or Zingwangwa.
• Good communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills; proactive, reliable and committed to community service.
• Willing to work with children, teachers and community stakeholders.
• Experience in environmental activities, community mobilisation or school-based projects is an added advantage.
