Manager - Accounting

About the role

Protea Hotels by Marriott is hiring a Manager - Accounting for its property in Lilongwe, Malawi. The role supports the day-to-day execution of general ledger processes, including client support, and covers account balancing, ledger reconciliation, reporting and discrepancy resolution. It is a full-time management position.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement accounting work and projects, and follow up on accounting SOP audits across the property
• Comply with fraud and collection laws, and generate accurate, timely reports and presentations
• Balance credit card ledgers, verify group contracts and run credit reference checks for directly billed groups
• Ensure profits and losses are documented accurately, monitor taxes so they are current, collected and accrued, and complete period-end functions
• Maintain strong accounting and operational controls to safeguard assets, and guide other units on accounting and budgeting policies
• Lead and mentor staff, train people on account receivable posting, and coach employees
• Manage collections calls when necessary and keep executives, peers and subordinates informed

Required profile

• 4-year bachelor's degree in finance and accounting, or a 2-year accredited degree in the same field
• More than 5 years of finance and accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality industry
• Malawian nationals only

Required skills

• Knowledge of return check procedures, gross revenue reporting, write-off and consolidated deposit procedures
• Proficiency with financial spreadsheets and computer systems
• Leadership, delegation and team management
