Lecturer / Senior Lecturer – English Literature & Language

About the role

The University of Malawi is seeking qualified academics to join its English department as Lecturers or Senior Lecturers. The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, contributing to scholarly research, and supporting a range of departmental and university‑wide activities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students in English literature and language.
• Conduct research and publish findings within your area of specialisation.
• Participate actively in departmental, faculty, college and university committees.
• Provide academic consultancy and support across broader departmental initiatives.

Required profile

• At least a Master’s degree in English Literature.
• Minimum two years of teaching experience in at least two of the following: African Literature, Oral Literature, Malawian Literature, Shakespeare, Literary Theory.
• Demonstrated ability to engage in research and academic service.
