Innovation Specialist (Health) – Bundle Up! Nutrition for Newborns

About the role

The Innovation Specialist (Health) will lead the Bundle Up! Nutrition for Small and Sick Newborns project at Kamuzu Central Hospital, Malawi. Reporting to the Innovations Manager, you will drive the design, testing and scaling of innovative solutions that improve nutrition outcomes for vulnerable newborns.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the innovation project.
• Apply Human‑Centred Design and Innovation‑Friendly Procurement to identify, test and scale solutions.
• Facilitate co‑design workshops with health workers, mothers, caregivers, the Ministry of Health and private‑sector partners.
• Strengthen partnerships, coordinate innovation activities and support adoption of tested solutions.
• Represent the project in national technical forums and generate evidence for scale‑up.
• Ensure compliance with Save the Children’s Innovation Strategy and donor requirements.
• Adapt working hours and duties in the event of a major humanitarian emergency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Design Strategy, Innovation, Manufacturing Engineering, Business Information Technology or a related discipline.
• Experience designing and implementing innovation projects and managing programmes, partnerships or incubators/accelerators.
• Strong understanding of health, nutrition and newborn‑care policies and practices in Malawi.
• Proven ability to apply Human‑Centred Design and facilitate innovation workshops.
• Experience managing project budgets, procurement processes and multi‑stakeholder partnerships.
• Excellent communication skills in English and Chichewa.
