Health Volunteer Journalist & District Public Health Volunteer – CHRWI Initiative

About the role

The Patient & Community Welfare Foundation of Malawi (PAWEM) is launching the Community Health Rights Watch Initiative (CHRWI) across all 28 districts. The programme seeks dedicated volunteers to act as Health Volunteer Journalists and District Public Health Volunteers, helping communities monitor, document, and report health‑rights concerns such as drug theft, corruption, and service gaps.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, document, and report health‑rights issues within assigned communities.
• Write and disseminate human‑interest stories and reports on health system accountability.
• Support whistleblowers by recording suspected drug theft, medicine diversion, corruption, discrimination, or other abuses.
• Participate in community dialogues, health‑rights committees, and digital reporting platforms.
• Collaborate with local health structures and health surveillance assistants to ensure accurate reporting.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to community health and patient rights.
• Good writing and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently in rural or urban district settings.
• Willingness to engage with community members, health officials, and civil‑society partners.
