Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager leads all engineering and maintenance activities for the Protea Hotel by Marriott in Lilongwe. This role ensures the building, grounds, and physical plant operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the physical plant, including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment, and electrical systems.
• Develop and manage the engineering budget, capital‑expenditure projects, and preventative‑maintenance programs.
• Ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate service contracts, supervise contractors, and monitor project timelines and costs.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and grounds to maintain high standards of appearance and functionality.
• Lead emergency response efforts for facility‑related incidents.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least 3 years of engineering/maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related field with at least 1 year of experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing systems.
