Infrastructure Specialist – Technical Advisory & Delivery Support

About the role

UNOPS is seeking an Infrastructure Specialist to provide technical advisory and delivery support for its infrastructure programmes in Malawi. The role ensures safe, timely, cost‑effective and compliant delivery of projects, supporting design, construction and contract management while fostering knowledge sharing and capacity building.

Key responsibilities

• Offer technical advice to project teams on delivery priorities, schedules, interfaces and risks, and propose corrective actions.
• Review designs, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities for completeness, constructability, value for money and compliance with Malawi, UNOPS and international standards.
• Support site teams on construction supervision, contractor submissions, progress monitoring, variations, claims, testing, commissioning, handover and defect management.
• Identify and assess material technical, quality, schedule, contractual and HSSE risks; conduct site inspections and recommend mitigation or escalation.
• Act as the technical focal point for infrastructure matters, provide clear input to stakeholders and facilitate knowledge sharing, mentoring and capacity building.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s preferred) in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Building Engineering or related field; a bachelor’s degree plus two years relevant experience may be accepted.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in infrastructure planning, design review, construction supervision or contract management.
