Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager leads all engineering and maintenance activities for the Protea Hotel by Marriott in Lilongwe. This role ensures the building, grounds, and physical plant operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the physical plant, including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment, and electrical systems.
• Develop and manage the engineering budget, capital‑expenditure projects, and preventative‑maintenance programs.
• Ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate energy‑conservation initiatives and monitor heat, light, and power usage.
• Prepare specifications, negotiate service contracts, and supervise external vendors.
• Plan and execute renovation or new‑construction projects, managing contractors and timelines.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and grounds to maintain high guest‑satisfaction standards.
• Maintain inventory of parts, equipment, and supplies.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with 3 years of engineering/maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, etc., with 1 year experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing systems.
