Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager oversees all engineering and maintenance operations for the Protea Hotel by Marriott in Lilongwe. The role ensures the building, grounds, and physical plant are maintained safely, securely, and efficiently while managing budgets, capital projects, and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the physical plant, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment, and electrical systems.
• Develop and monitor preventive‑maintenance programs and asset‑protection plans.
• Control energy use, recommend conservation measures, and oversee heat, light, and power management.
• Prepare specifications, negotiate, and administer service contracts.
• Distribute work orders, track completion quality and timeliness.
• Supervise maintenance of grounds, guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, vehicles, and recreational facilities.
• Lead renovation or new‑construction projects, obtain bids, and ensure timely, on‑budget delivery.
• Maintain relationships with city building/zoning departments, fire‑prevention bureau, and vendors.
• Conduct monthly property inspections and guest‑room checks to ensure standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least 3 years of engineering/maintenance experience and technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing, or a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related field with at least 1 year of experience and the same technical training.
