Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager leads all engineering and maintenance operations for the Protea Hotel by Marriott in Lilongwe. This role ensures the building, grounds, and physical plant operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the physical plant, including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems.
• Manage budgets, capital‑expenditure projects, and preventative‑maintenance programs.
• Develop and enforce energy‑conservation strategies and asset‑protection plans.
• Coordinate service contracts, supervise contractors, and ensure timely project completion.
• Maintain regulatory compliance, safety standards, and fire‑prevention procedures.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and grounds to ensure high guest satisfaction.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with 3 years of engineering/maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, etc., with 1 year experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Strong budgeting, project‑management, and regulatory‑compliance knowledge.
