Engineering Manager – Facilities & Maintenance

About the role

The Engineering Manager leads all engineering and maintenance activities for the Protea Hotel by Marriott in Lilongwe. You will ensure the building, grounds, and physical plant operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the physical plant, including HVAC‑R, refrigeration, plumbing, water‑treatment, and electrical systems.
• Develop and manage the engineering budget, capital‑expenditure projects, and preventive‑maintenance program.
• Ensure regulatory compliance, safety standards, and energy‑conservation initiatives.
• Prepare specifications, negotiate service contracts, and supervise external vendors.
• Coordinate renovation and new‑construction projects, handling bids and on‑site supervision.
• Maintain grounds, guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, vehicles, and recreational facilities.
• Conduct regular inspections of property, guest rooms, and common areas to guarantee high standards.
• Lead the emergency‑response team for facility‑related incidents.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with 3 years of engineering‑maintenance experience, **or** a 2‑year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, etc., with 1 year experience.
• Technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, projects, and regulatory compliance.
