Education Specialist – Fixed Term (P-3) in Lilongwe

About the role

UNICEF is seeking an Education Specialist (P-3) on a fixed‑term basis to lead strategic planning, implementation and monitoring of education programmes that improve quality and access for children and adolescents in Malawi.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation and reporting of programmes that enhance school readiness, foundational learning and alternative learning pathways.
• Strengthen safe school environments, especially for the most vulnerable children.
• Engage and coordinate with government counterparts, development partners and civil society to mobilise resources and align actions.
• Facilitate policy dialogue, contribute to policy formulation and conduct evidence‑based advocacy.
• Support evidence generation, innovation, knowledge management and capacity‑building initiatives.
• Ensure programme quality, reach, effectiveness and efficiency through proactive coordination.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Economics, Psychology, Sociology or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in education programme management, planning, monitoring & evaluation, policy development, partnership management, capacity building, knowledge management, sector planning, advocacy or education in emergencies.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders and drive results in complex environments.

Required skills

• Technical experience in pre‑primary education.
• Technical experience in foundational literacy and alternative learning pathways for adolescents.
• Technical experience in quality education programming.
• Ability to advocate for and support policy dialogue.
