About the role

Evidence Action is hiring a Driver for its Safe Water Now program, based in Mangochi. The driver provides safe, reliable and efficient transportation for authorized personnel, materials and goods, supporting program operations from urban office errands to remote field sites.

Key responsibilities

• Safely drive staff and authorised visitors to designated locations, including remote field sites, and deliver equipment, health commodities and official documents securely.
• Ensure passengers follow safety rules (e.g. seatbelts) and that the vehicle is not used for unauthorised purposes.
• Follow security protocols given by the supervisor and stay aware of road conditions and high-risk zones.
• Carry out daily checks of oil, water, tyre pressure, brakes and electrical systems, monitor mileage and coordinate servicing with the Operations team.
• Keep the vehicle clean inside and out and report mechanical breakdowns immediately.
• Record every trip (mileage, fuel consumption, purpose of travel), manage fueling and reconcile receipts with mileage.
• Report accidents or security incidents promptly and help with basic admin tasks such as photocopying and filing when not driving.

Required profile

• Minimum of MSCE.
• At least 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably with an international NGO or a large corporate entity.
• Valid and clean driving licence.
• Strong knowledge of local road networks and traffic laws.
• High level of integrity, punctuality and ability to work in a fast-paced field environment.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• A certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics is a significant advantage.

• Basic computer literacy (MS Word/Excel) for record keeping.
